W4G Headline Security Services at Curious Arts Festival
We have just returned from yet another great year providing professional security services for The Curious Arts Festival at Pylewell Park. It was fantastic to see familiar faces and to see how the festival has grown. This was the five year anniversary of the event and our third year providing the security, we were thrilled to see that the festival was going from strength to strength.
The Curious Arts Festival takes place over three days in July on the Pylewell Park estate in Hampshire. The weekend is filled with live music, comedy, book signings and guest readers. It is a family friendly event which draws crowds year on year. The atmosphere is always electric, and individuals are so friendly, social and happy! It really is a fantastic event enjoyed by all.
To control the ever-growing crowd numbers, W4G provided a larger number of SIA officers than previous years to adapt to those numbers. We provided 24 hour security officers on site and were assisted by the volunteer stewards. In terms of a festival such as Curios Arts, it’s not one where we would expect much trouble, but we still have to be vigilant in our roles and our priority is to keep everyone safe on site.
The lineup was electric
The 2018 lineup was monumental, and they certainly entertained the 5000 spectators. John Newman brought the house down on the Saturday night with his incredible voice and charged stage presence. The main stage was full of guests spilling out into the field to dance along to the talented singer. On the Sunday evening we saw Gareth Malone take to the stage with a guest choir of 32 outstanding singers. Again, the main arena was packed with a buzzing atmosphere from the audience enjoying the beautiful performance.
The atmosphere in the comedy tent was just as electric. Underneath the canopy, every act was embraced with a sea of faces and seemed to be a ‘go to’ area for many of the festival goers. Sundays main act was Al Murray. He was friendly and mingled within the festival, meeting guests and taking time to chat to everyone. He was so popular when he went on stage, that chairs had to be drafted in from all over the site to seat the growing crowds.
How we helped…
The main issues we had on the site this year were the usual lost phones, wallets and personal items. Many were handed in to lost property and reunited with the owners. One issue we always get at any event are the ‘lost child’ incidents. We have a strict and efficient protocol for when this arises and we take it very seriously, whether it’s a lost child looking for their parents, or vice versa and a parent can’t locate their child.
In most of the cases, they are reunited very quickly, but we do stress the importance of always knowing and monitoring your children’s movements, even at a family event such as this one. The festival organisers and stewards work well with ourselves to provide a safe event and working together with safety as a priority makes everyone’s job easier.
Getting in on the groove!
However, it must be said, one of the highlights for us this year was London DJ Harriet Rose getting our security officers for festivals up on stage to have a dance, much to the crowds approval as cheers rang out across the bar. With the music and bar area open until 2am, the security officers experienced no trouble from the event goers and could focus on the safety of all without any issues.
W4G Festival Security Services
Curious Arts Festival 2018 was a joy to work at as always. We had a great team of experienced SIA officers from our security services Devon who provided the best safety and security for the event whilst understanding and providing the customer service that we at W4G Security thrives on. Thank you to all who made it such an enjoyable weekend, and we will see you all again next year!
